Background

About Bethany Schmidt

As an Assistant Professor in Penology at University of Cambridge, I apply my expertise in prisons research to advance social equity and human rights. I have a Ph.D. in Criminology from the same institution, where I also obtained a Master's degree in Criminological Research. For the last six years, I have been involved in developing and implementing Measuring the Quality of Prison Life (MQPL+) projects in several countries, both in the global north and south. These projects aim to provide evidence-based insights and recommendations for prison reform and management. I have also lectured and supervised postgraduate students, and consulted across sectors on prisons and justice issues. I am passionate about working with marginalised, criminalised, or underserved populations, and I seek to diversify my skillset outside of academia. I have strong organisational skills, including project planning and implementation, budget oversight, public engagement, team management, and output delivery. I am looking for a position in a local or international NGO that shares my commitment to advancing human rights.
