About Beverley Saechin

It is my passion to work with at-risk youth to break the cycle of poverty. As I lived and learned my way through poverty as an at-risk student, I’ve learned to show everyone, including myself that I can make a difference in children’s lives by volunteering, interning, and working closely with underrepresented children. Working with disadvantaged children provided me the opportunity to change student’s views about education and how higher education, such as attending a University will change their lives for the better. I worked and volunteered with a community service program named, Join Us Making Progress (JUMP) for nearly 4 years at Sonoma State University. I went from a volunteer, to an intern, then to a coordinator at JUMP. I worked with many different youth programs within JUMP as an academic support tutor. I received the opportunity to work with at-risk youth, some of whom had disabilities such as ADHD. I developed skills to work with diverse families, professionally and personally by getting to know the children and their families through daily interaction as we discussed where their child is standing academically and developmentally in the program. It is my goal to create a positive change in our community.
