About Beverly Horowitz

Received BA from Stony Brook University, MS from Columbia University, and PhD from Fordham University. Dr. Horowitz is a licensed occupational therapist, social worker, and a professional geriatric care manager. Dr. Horowitz has extensive experience as an educator, consultant, and researcher and working with older adults and families across the care continuum, focusing on supporting community living for older adults. Dr. Horowitz is a member of the NYS Occupational Therapy Assoc, Am. Occupational Therapy Assoc, Gerontological Society of America, State Society on Aging of NY, and is past President of the State Society on Aging of New York. Dr. Horowitz is a Fellow of both the Am. Occupational Therapy Assoc. and the Gerontological Society of America. She received the Walter M. Beattie Jr. Award from the State Society on Aging of New York in 2019. Dr. Horowitz' research has focused on geriatric rehabilitation, occupational therapy practice, occupational therapy education & service learning, the influence of social, instrumental and leisure activities on life satisfaction among assisted living residents, and workforce issues across disciplines in geriatric practice in NYS. Publications have addressed geriatric rehabilitation, occupational therapy practice and education, and strategies to promote healthy aging within Am. Occupational Therapy Association’s (AOTA) publications OT Practice and Ger.Special Interest Section Quarterly, Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy in Health Care, Occupational Therapy in Mental Health, Physical and Occupational Therapy in Geriatrics, Gerontology & Geriatrics Education, the Journal of Gerontological Social Work, Care Management Journals, the Journal of Allied Health, Disability & Health Journal, the World Federation of Occupational Therapy Bulletin, The Israel Journal of Occupational Therapy, and has been a contributor to occupational therapy texts.
