About Beverly Mumbo

I am a women's human rights lawyer and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with five years post admission experience. I currently serve as the Legal Counsel at FIDA Kenya in the Access to Justice Department. I attended Georgetown University Law Centre and obtained my Master’s with Distinction in International Legal Studies and a Certificate in International Human Rights. I also attained a certificate in the Foundations of American Law. I graduated with an LL.B. from Moi University in 2013. At FIDA Kenya, I have worked to advance women’s and children’s rights over a broad spectrum of issues. I have specialized in family law including child custody and maintenance, divorce, division of matrimonial property, and succession. I also have expertise in both advocacy and litigation against gender-based violence and I am among an emerging group of young leaders in the conversation surrounding domestic and intimate partner violence. Further, I have experience in program implementation in various areas of women's human rights law including sexual and gender based violence (SGBV), land rights, sexual and reproductive health rights and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. I am passionate about increasing access to reproductive health rights and has carried out extensive research in the area. As a scholar, I have carried out extensive research in fields such as land rights and maternal health, as well as the rehabilitation system for minors in Kenya.
