Educational Philosophy As educators, we must always remember that we are teaching people. This may sound obvious, but with the push for measurable data, it is easy to lose perspective. If we focus on the needs of the student and address the obstacles to their learning, subject matter will come more easily. Why is a student having trouble? Are they getting enough sleep? Are they getting enough to eat? What is going on at home? Does the child have a home? Measuring is important, but it shouldn't supersede the needs of the student. Our educational efforts will be rewarded exponentially if the approach is integrated. Cooperation and collaboration between teachers, administrators, parents and community members will give students consistent support for their growth. I try, whenever possible to teach Music Lessons that dovetail what is taught in the classroom with the idea that one plus one can equal three. Leadership Style I am a self-motivated, creative leader who sees the big picture in each new project. I can anticipate potential challenges and address them during the planning stages. I am energized by each new mission and am driven to achieve the goal set before me. I Want to understand the “whys and hows” of a situation, and prefer to consider the possible ramifications of a decision before coming to a conclusion. While understanding the complexities of a subject, I can adjust my presentation for an audience so that they can understand the main points. My work as a professional musician has enabled me to recognize and appreciate the strengths of each member in an ensemble. Putting aside differences and working together productively with a team has become second nature to me. Like a conductor, I can envisage the entire production, and anticipate possible challenges. I love to travel and explore different cultures. My constant curiosity and love of learning have led me to try and master activities such as tap dancing, audio recording, Pilates and basketball.
