About Bhavraj Thethy

Propulsion engineer with industry experience and a PhD that focused on the design, development and analysis of high-pressure propulsion systems for aircraft and rocket engines. Currently working at The Exploration Company on the design, development and ongoing operation of in-house propulsion test facilities. Previously worked at NextAero, developing an enhanced high-pressure cryogenic test facility for liquid rocket engines. This was funded by an Australian Space Agency Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability Improvement Grant. Before entering industry, completed a jointly supervised PhD between Monash University (Australia) and the Technical University of Berlin (Germany). This project investigated the dynamics of shock waves in future propulsion concepts known as detonation engines, which promise to increase the efficiency of aircraft and rocket engines. Understanding the propagation of shock waves is a key part of unlocking these efficiency gains. A significant portion of this project involved the design, commissioning and development of a high-pressure shock tube facility. Prior to the PhD, gained experience in several other areas including aircraft structural integrity, model-based systems engineering and unmanned aerial vehicles. Thus far, this has included experience across industry, academia and government organisations in Australia, Germany and France. Technical skills include design and operation of high-pressure systems, operation and development of cryogenic systems, proficiency in multiple CAD programs (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, PTC Creo), programming (MATLAB, VBA, Python) and experience in data acquisition and virtual instrument design using LabVIEW.
