Background
About Bianca Augustine
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia serving clients in private practice. I am also a counselor educator, researcher, and activist. Over the years, I have gained a wealth of experience as an international speaker, trainer, and consultant. I help individuals of marginalized identity groups & those serving them to develop tools for liberation from unhelpful narratives and to cultivate holistic wellness with an emphasis on sex/sexuality and trauma. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in psychology and Master’s of Arts in psychology with a concentration in counseling at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA, and obtained my Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counselor Education at William and Mary and currently teach master’s-level counseling courses for Upper Iowa University as an adjunct instructor. My clinical interests include mental health counseling with minoritized ethnic groups and those with affectional and gender-expansive identities, as well as counseling concerns related to sexuality, trauma, and grief. I serve clients through an integrative, trauma-informed approach, often with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy at its foundation. My research interests include the aforementioned areas, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for the treatment of racialized trauma, creative interventions in counseling, and the experiences of marginalized groups in counselor education and supervision programs and the profession. My professional experiences include teaching and co-teaching at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels and working with clients of various ages in agency, hospital, in-home, and private practice settings, primarily with trauma and identity-related concerns. I am very passionate about counseling, training, and teaching through social justice and anti-racist lens and an intersectionality-oriented perspective, in which I also integrate the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Ubuntu.
