Background

About Bianca Rivera

I am an Instruction and Research Librarian and published author with experience in both academic and K-12 libraries. My work focuses on helping students develop strong research skills, evaluate information critically, and navigate complex digital information environments. Earlier in my career, I served as a tenured academic librarian at Valencia College and Indian River State College, where I taught information literacy sessions across disciplines, collaborated with faculty on course-integrated research assignments, and developed instructional materials to support student learning. I also taught credit-bearing library research courses and designed online tutorials and learning resources for hybrid and distance learning environments. In my current role as a tenured School Library Media Specialist, I design and assess information literacy instruction that helps students evaluate sources, identify misinformation, and understand emerging challenges such as AI-generated content. I also developed my district’s K-8 Computer Science Digital Fluency curriculum and integrate coding, robotics, and makerspace learning into inquiry-based instruction. I remain actively engaged in the profession through publishing, conference presentations, and professional leadership. I currently serve as President of the Long Island School Library Association, where I support collaboration and professional development for school librarians across the region. My professional interests include curriculum development, instructional design and learning assessment, media literacy and AI evaluation and emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
