My name is Emmanuel Bida Thomas. I am Coordinator and Acting Managing Editor for 211 Check at DEFY HATE NOW (DHN) South Sudan, an NNGO that promotes digital rights and combatting hate speech and misinformation online and offline. I oversee, identify and develop fact-check articles, edit, compile social media health reports, manage social media accounts, do web editing, and publish. I work continuously with the editorial teams tasked to generate and build articles. I am also the lead trainer at the organisation responsible for developing training plans and materials. We’ve trained hundreds of youth on tackling misinformation and being cyber-smart across several South Sudan towns. In addition to my media-related work, I help with program management at Excellence Foundation for South Sudan. Since June 2022, we have trained over 200 youth in South Sudan and beyond on personal branding, financial management, and digital literacy, among others. We also work with primary and secondary schools to train prefect boards on leadership skills and run a mini competition on spelling bee and speed challenge quiz. I deliver cutting-edge innovative work that promotes opportunities for personal and professional growth, the organisation’s satisfaction and corporate image, fellow human beings’ welfare based on organisational safety and creating personal relationships towards development. I am trained in Digital Security, Google News Lab, Fact-checking and Information Verification, Information Ethics and Media Information Literacy (IE & MIL), Human Centered Design, Data Journalism, Social Media Management, Digital Marketing and Freelancing.
