About Bigi Lui

I've been fully remote since 2018 and have moved away from the SF Bay Area. See my post on the topic: https://bigi.dev/blog/2020-02-07-moving-from-the-bay-area-to-the-greater-sacramento-area Over the past decade and a half, I've grown from a relatively fresh php web developer to a senior IC tech leadership role (Architect) in Zynga; cofounded a micropayments startup CoinTent (YC S16) as CTO; led engineering teams in Massdrop (Drop); led the development of the business operations backend systems at Knock; and now at Captain.tv. In terms of technology, I've done full stack, backend, web frontend. My experience has evolved from PHP web apps in MVC architecture (in the mid to late to modern React frontend and nodejs backend (mid late 2010s - now), and in the middle I've dabbled in everything from Flash client (Actionscript 3) game dev and Unity game dev (Zynga), running AWS dev ops (CoinTent), and architecting complex systems for both e-commerce (Massdrop) and real estate transaction (Knock) businesses. In terms of product, I've helped grow and scale Mafia Wars from the beginning to its peak (6+ million daily active users) in a couple of years; architected the client and backend systems for Mafia Wars 2; built out all of CoinTent's backend systems supporting clients as large as LA Times and Kiplinger, generating millions of hits in daily traffic on our systems while staying performant and available; and designed microservice systems to support a complex Home Swap real estate transaction in a reliable manner at Knock.
