About Bill Carter

There I was an avid PC gamer playing Command & Conquer. Suddenly the game crashed during an epic comeback, a friend said I needed more memory, so I went to a computer show, bought memory, and installed it. Problem Solved. Looking back, never would I know then that simple ram install would start me down the path to a career in information technology. I was a self-taught tech that eventually landed a full-time job as a PC technician at the age of 17. Computer technology intrigued my curiosity and I believe strongly that it can positively impact lives. I then realized I was ready for a new challenge and begun taking courses in networking, cloud computing and Industrial Control Systems. However, I was invited to a cybersecurity competition between universities and was amazed to say the least. I saw students from universities, community colleges, and high schools feverishly trying to patch servers, configure switches, patch operating systems, creating scripts and so much more to keep the red team out. I knew this is where I wanted to be in the next phase of my career. Since then, I have been taking courses, attended a bootcamp, and studying for certs to make a transition into cybersecurity. Even with the negative news we hear about malicious activities by attackers from various organizations, I firmly believe technology is still a force of positive impact on society, but that what is needed are good people willing to take up the challenge to protect innocent users. An instructor challenged me to get comfortable with being uncomfortable in cybersecurity. challenge accepted.
