About Bill Goodway

Through the course of my career, spanning nearly 40 years, I have had increasing managerial and technical responsibility in all aspects of seismic acquisition, processing and imaging. Beyond the technical aspects of my career I was part of various Peer Review teams at PanCanadian, EnCana and most recently Apache, reviewing conventional projects and unconventional resource plays across the company’s portfolio in Brazil, United States, Canada, Australia, Argentina, North Sea and Egypt. In this role I provided technical oversight and insight, identifying applicable technologies and needed resources to address key risks, quantifying risk, normalizing resource ranges, ranking portfolios, and sharing knowledge and best practices across the company. I also formed and directed various Geophysical Technology groups at PanCanadian, EnCana and Apache to provide specific high level technical support for regional G,G&E team projects. In addition to these achievements I have developed and implemented new advanced acquisition and interpretation methods that have gained worldwide recognition and application based on higher success rates in exploration and development drilling. These include: 1. An improved, cost-effective method of land 3D seismic acquisition and processing termed “MegaBin”, which was patented in the U.S, Canada and other countries. A new, improved AVO QI based interpretation method termed LMR. The method inverts seismic data for Lamé parameters, by combining geological and petrophysical analysis for proven detection and quantitative discrimination of sand and carbonate HC reservoirs and was recognized by the SEG through its Reginald Fessenden Award in 2016. I have also received four CSEG Best Paper Awards from 1994 to 1997 and in 2008 was awarded the CSEG Medal the society’s highest honor. In 2009 I was selected as the SEG’s Honorary Lecturer for North America and in 2013 was the honoree at the 2nd CSEG symposium.
