Background
About Bill Hammond
I am the creator of Generalized Extensible LaTeX-Like Markup (GELLMU), a layered system for writing articles based on SGML/XML technology with (1) a LaTeX-like front end that may be used to write for most SGML or XML document types and (2) a didactic production system (to serve as base for shop-level customization) that, through staged translations, yields both PDF and modern HTML-with-Math(ML) versions in a dependable way from a single source. A variant introduced in 2011 (currently available by request) produces HTML5 output linked with MathJax. A video of my presentation at the 32nd annual meeting of the TeX Users Group (TUG) at San Francisco, June 2010, is available at the URL http://river-valley.tv/latex-profiles-as-objects-in-the-%e2%80%9ccategory%e2%80%9d-of-markup-languages/ In January 2010 I was co-organizer with Thomas Leathrum and Kyle Siegrist of a special MAA session "Publishing Math on the Web". During the spring semester of 2009 I taught a newly designed course at the University entitled "Modern Computing for Mathematicians" providing an introduction to (1) computer algebra systems and (2) an introduction to techniques for creating documents with mathematical content. There was concern with author-level semantics in these two contexts. In January 2008, Paulo Ney de Souza, Patrick Ion, and I organized a special AMS-MAA session at the Joint Mathematics Meetings concerning "Putting math on the Web the correct way". A video of my 40 minute presentation in July 2007 at the San Diego meeting of the TeX User Group (TUG) may be found online at the URL http://river-valley.tv/dual-presentation-with-math-from-one-source/
