About Bill Jones

Bill's career began as a middle school science teacher before retiring as Director of Federal Programs, Dean of Students and Science Coordinator. During his time as a middle school science teacher he became a Research Intern for the Department of Energy's Bureau of Mines as well as the Resident Life Director of the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University. Upon retirement he became the Middle School Coordinator for ASSET Inc in Pittsburgh PA. In that capacity Bill was responsible for initiating ASSET's middle school program throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. This program provided hands-on, inquiry-based science kits to the middle school teachers in the program, including training in the mechanics of the kit and science content. During his time with ASSET Bill became a part of Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell's state-wide science initiative, Science:It's Elementary (SIE) program, a program developed to move the ASSET concept from Southwestern Pennsylvania throughout the state of Pennsylvania. To coincide with the SIE program Bill developed and presented the Curriculum Alignment Planning Service (CAPS) designed to aid school districts in aligning their current science curriculum to the Pennsylvania State Science Standards. Leaving ASSET after ten years Bill has become an independent contractor working with the Smithsonian Science Education Center and Carolina Biological Supply Company. He has been a faculty member of the Smithsonian's LASER Strategic Planning Institute making presentations in a number of cities throughout the country. Recently, Bill has been providing science training to teachers through the Smithsonian's i3 Grant in Albuquerque Santa Fe and Houston. In his consulting with Carolina Biological Bill has provided training and science content understanding of the company's Science and Technology Concepts (STC) program to teachers and administrators in the northeastern United States.
