Background

About Bill Luo

I am a senior at Colgate University pursuing a double major in Physics and Applied Mathematics, with a research focus in quantum optics and photonics. My work has spanned experimental projects ranging from single-photon interference to high-dimensional quantum key distribution, both in Colgate’s Quantum Optics Lab and the Structured Quantum Optics Group at the University of Ottawa. My primary interests lie in experimental design and implementation — including laser alignment, optical system optimization, and the development of data acquisition and analysis software. This work has resulted in a first-author publication in The American Journal of Physics and multiple presentations at national conferences such as APS March and FiO/LS. In addition to research, I have served as a lab assistant and teaching assistant for several physics courses, providing mentorship and technical guidance to undergraduate researchers and students at all levels. I am particularly committed to fostering an environment of academic rigor and collaborative inquiry.
