About Bill MacArthur

Necessity is the mother of invention and for me, also the spur of professional diversification. 15 years ago I was fortunate to make a sideways career change into IT with a certain skill set and vision. I was immediately presented with business challenges that needed technology I was not familiar with. Enthusiasm for developing solutions for the continual stream of new needs, that have arisen since, has kept me out of a comfortable box. My intuition for understanding intentions and real needs over expressed wants, has helped me to exceed expectations as well as avoid both personal and inter-personal disappointments. DevOps has been how I work, long before the term was coined. From database development, to web site programming to javascript integration of components, I have bridged all areas of development. The only exception is the graphical design element. I am not particularly gifted in that art. I have always taken responsibility for the systems and components I have developed, along with the procedures I have executed. I have always been up front about failures, even if they could have easily been hidden, preferring the high road of honesty and integrity towards my co-workers, management, the company overall and those whose livelihood is derived therefrom. Although technology is my work, it is not my life. I can sit on the deck of a mountainside cottage, without a cellphone nor an internet connection, and be perfectly content just soaking in the beauty that surrounds me. Those who know me will uniformly attest that I am a jovial, easy going individual who ushers peace into the environment around me. I defuse "drama" and avoid strife. Using understanding, rather than condescension, I interact with those less technically astute to bridge the communication gap. Empowerment is my personal motto.
