About Billy Crowley

An experienced IT management, technical and cybersecurity professional and leader. I have broad leadership experience across cybersecurity, enterprise infrastructure, portfolio management, projects delivery, service delivery, and incident response areas. There’s depth of expertise too. I’m a certified Security Professional, certified Information Systems Auditor, and certified Security Manager. I believe in keeping skills up to date. My most recent educational experiences include an IT management MSc in 2014 and a Level 6 Diploma in Human Resource Practice in 2019. I have presented at international conferences such as RSA Europe, IDC and Gartner conferences on a range of Security and Infrastructure topics. I manage a complex and dynamic cybersecurity function across IT and OT environments for the ESB group of companies. This involves transformation of the operational security function and establishment of new areas of practice. I work closely with my leads in TVM, IAM, Incident Response, Security Engineering, SIEM/SOC, and SAP Security to optimise our services. I previously managed an extensive portfolio of IT projects to support ESB Networks in delivering on its strategic objectives in a dynamic business environment. Projects managed included SCADA and OT systems upgrades, wholesale market changes, digital customer services, mobile applications, critical telephony and storm response systems to mention a few. In my 20+ year IT career, I have held operational management roles in infrastructure, web, end-user compute and virtualisation environments, as well as a decade spent working in various cyber-security operational roles. Security is my absolute passion, with managing and developing people coming a close second. I still manage out-of-hours multi-disciplinary support teams with a roster of over 60 people to swiftly respond to any critical incident affecting any aspect of ESB’s IT estate. I’ve kept up to date with ICT trends through professional certifications and memberships. I have certifications in security, audit, forensics, and project management. In 2014 I completed an MSc. In Information Systems Management. The research element focused on overcoming the legal, regulatory, technical and functional impediments to public cloud uptake. I'm fascinated by the capacity of technology to fundamentally alter business processes and to swiftly confer competitive advantage. I’m a big believer in demonstrating value and ensuring that benefits are realised. I'm also profoundly aware of the potential impact of poor or insecure technology choices.
