I have 8 years experience in marketing and marketing technologies. My role at Liquidity Services primarily dealt with B2B, but my past work has been almost entirely B2C. The principles are the same. Excellent marketing is as crucial to success as providing an excellent product or service, regardless of the clientele. The part of this work that I enjoy is the incredibly wide range of methods and non-methods that can constitute effective marketing. For some companies, the best tactic may be full-blown traditional advertising campaigns. For others, it may be doing nothing but Instagram posts. For others still, it could be networking with industry bloggers, who then act as evangelists for the brand. That's the challenge. There's always room for experimentation, creativity, and inventiveness. The right tactic one year may be totally wrong the next. However, with the proper infrastructure, planning, strategy, tracking, and analysis, this is a challenge one can surf upon, rather than be buried under.
