About Binod Sah

With over 15 years of experiences in vaccinology, I am specialized in: surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases, observational epidemiological (including cost of illness) studies, clinical development and post-licensure effectiveness trials, vaccine delivery through public health systems in resource constrained settings, etc. In addition to being detail oriented, my strength is in-depth knowledge in design, operations and management of multiple projects in developing countries in Asia and Africa. I have planned, implemented, and monitored several vaccination campaigns with oral polio vaccine, oral cholera vaccine, injectable measles vaccine etc. I have led the Cholera Program activities (clinical development and deployment of safe, effective and affordable oral cholera vaccines) at the International Vaccine Institute and ensured that the program delivered on its goal, within budget and according to timeline. The IVI-reformulated cholera vaccine was WHO-prequalified in 2011 (Shanchol) and in 2015 (Euvichol). The Cholera Program was the biggest franchise at the IVI, in terms of available funding (USD 37 million) and number of projects in different stages of clinical development where I led and managed a team of 10 people (including 3 PhDs) from different departments. As the Cholera Program Leader at the IVI, I led 4 new projects and coordinated the efforts to obtain USD 2.8 million in 1 year. I have also worked with the Bharat Biotech International Limited, India where 2 of its products were WHO-prequalified: a vaccine against rota virus (Rotavac) and a conjugate vaccine against typhoid (Typbar-TCV) in 2018. I am a medical doctor by training with post-graduation in International Health Policy and Management, and have worked with WHO, Academia, non-profit research institutions, and for-profit company. I am equally experienced in working and living in fast paced, multi-cultural environments, both in hierarchical and matrix-based organizations.
