About Birgit Schyns

I am Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Neoma Business School since 2017. I also in 2020 joined the laboratoire C2S (Cognition, Santé, Société) Université de Reims Champagne Ardenne as an associate member. After receiving my PhD in psychology from the University of Leipzig in 2001, I worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Resource Studies at Tilburg University and at the Department of Work and Organizational Psychology, University of Twente, both in The Netherlands, and as a Reader in OB at Portsmouth University and Reader in Management, then Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Durham University. During my time in Durham, I have served as director of the International Centre for Leadership and Followership as well as the Director of the Faculty and Business School Experimental Laboratory and the PhD Programme director. My research topics comprise leadership and career development. I have published widely on topics including antecedents and consequences of exchange relationship between leaders and their followers and factors influencing followers’ perception of leadership (e.g, mood, personality, implicit leadership theories). I have been associate editor of European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology (2007 to 2012), associate editor of British Journal of Management (2009-2014) and currently associate editor of Applied Psychology: An International Review (since January 2018) and member of several editorial boards (including Leadership Quarterly and Group and Organization Management).
