About Bitu Hurisso

I am keen to the development of sustainable chemical processes that foster the advancement of science and technology for the betterment of society. My research interest lies in developing alternative green chemical processes in synthesis, materials processing and utilization of renewable feedstocks. The highlights of my skills and experiences are summarized as follows: • Professional Chemist with organic and analytical chemistry background with focus on green/sustainable chemistry. • Highly experienced in university teaching and research for the last 10-14 years. • Have diverse research experience in areas of water & wastewater analysis, lignin chemistry, green chemistry, surface chemistry, synthesis, purification, and characterizations of materials. • Hands on experience on analytical instruments both chromatography (GC-MS, HPLC, IC, GPC) and spectroscopy (UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, ESI-MS). Experience with thermal analysis methods such as DSC, TGA and DMA. • Well-developed experience in advanced level instrumentations such as XPS, ToF-SIMS, SEM/EDX, and FIB-SEM. • Communicated research outcomes via 14 seminar papers and posters presented in national and international conferences. • Five peer-reviewed papers published in reputed international journals.
