About Blair Simpson-Wise

Motivated to inform and entertain, I combine my writing and video production skills with my academic expertise in relevant sociology and culture studies to create engaging journalism content. I’m a First Nations student studying at the University of Newcastle. I am completing a double degree in developmental studies and communication, majoring in culture and citizenship and news media, respectively. I am passionate about documenting human rights issues, class struggles, and progressive politics. I was a writer and content editor for a student-run media publication, reporting geopolitical news and current affairs in Australia and internationally. My work has been featured on AAP, Vice, Crikey, National Indigenous Times, and IndigenousX. My creative expression continues to develop and evolve. Visual arts and painting were the first mediums I used to express myself; I have continued to publish articles and essays. I also have experience producing video projects, and in the future, I plan to pursue video journalism and documentary-making. As a Dunghutti boy growing up on the Mid-North Coast, I grew up in a small rural town, which exposed me to various communities with unique stories of disadvantage. This sparked my interest in sociology, politics, economics, and culture as I wanted to learn more about marginalised groups.
