I've been a direct response copywriter at The Motley Fool for going on 4 years now, focusing primarily on multi-million dollar back-end campaign launches and reporting directly to our Chief Growth Officer. That means day after day of strategic and creative planning, all dedicated to selling our full suite of high-end (mostly annually) investment products. It means deftly deploying the considerable resources at your disposal, ranging from designers to video ops to investors to fellow copywriters. And above all, it of course means hammering out persuasive copy. Lots of persuasive copy. 3 to 4-page list-builder and engagement emails. Dozens of digital ads to cycle through during each stage of the campaign. Different versions of all of those ads for various channels (FB, GDN, Taboola, Google Search). Microsite copy. Auto-responders. Video scripts and talking points for on-air talent. Not to mention the small matter of the actual 30ish-page sales promotion itself. All within a claustrophobic time frame and shatterproof deadlines, and all with the quality to breed mid 7-figure campaigns at the bare minimum. That’s how I spend my days, and frankly I have a hard time imagining doing anything else. I embrace the endless puzzle-solving of DRM copywriting. I relish the challenge of weaseling my way into the heads of my prospects. I appreciate the accompanying stress, pressure, and exhaustion. I love being a part of our small, yet relentless marketing team. And I bask in the fact that many of a mid-sized company’s highest priority cash goals fall largely upon my shoulders.¬ In addition to BE launches, I have extensive experience writing long-form FE newsletter promotions (including two controls) for acquisition… early renewals (including a $7.9 million renewal on our highest-tier product – beating goal by more than 10x)… welcome emails… and working on both the initial and 2nd launch of Motley Fool Holdings' regulated Motley Fool Wealth Management division.
