About Blake Druery

My goal is to create the best pictures possible; to collaborate on inspiring projects with you to ensure that they look the best they can. I work with client, agency and director to hone in on a vision, bid out jobs, VFX supervise on set and then lead the job to finish. I enjoy finding ways that VFX can help inform the story in a clean and effective manner, rather than jamming VFX in there for the sake of it. I got into the industry because I'm passionate about visual culture and because a mate of mine told me he could get me a job cleaning a cupboard at Animal Logic while I was still in design school. In addition to extensive experience working on high-end commercials, leading SuperBowl spots and a bunch of successful collaborations on music videos, short films and title sequences everyone involved is super proud of, my experience includes work on feature films such as Baz Luhrman's Australia, Alex Proyas' Knowing and Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are. I have all the usual compositing skills such as integrating plates, comping multipass CGI elements into live-action or fully CGI environments, grading, tracking, 3D set extensions, use of Nuke's particle system retiming, blah blah blah etc. I have a good eye for detail, colour and motion - an important attribute for anyone working in comp. I also have the ability to work to deadlines while still achieving a high quality of work. I can throw a lens flare on a shot with the best of them. I'll even put some grain on top. I prefer to work in a combination of Nuke and Flame, cherry-picking the advantages of both for different tasks. I work well with others; working as part of a good team is always one of the most enjoyable things about the workplace. I'm also very comfortable working directly with agency and client in live sessions.
