About Blake Hewgill

From a young age I would disassemble toys, gadgets, and small appliances (sorry, Mom!) to learn how they accomplished their intended functions. By the time I had my driver’s license, I was rebuilding motorcycle engines and rewiring electrical harnesses in my parents’ garage. I have always had a passion for learning, and so long as there remains a problem at hand I am devoted to finding its solution. Joining the workforce before returning to University to obtain my master’s degree has given me experience in small team leadership, as well as exposing me to multidisciplinary tasks by nature of the small size of our firm. Working side by side with physicists, research scientists, and engineers of multiple disciplines has given me an appreciation for the many methods available not just to solve a problem, but how to interpret it in the first place. This exposure has helped me develop a multifaceted set of skills which allow me to approach both hardware and software solutions, from analog and digital board design, layout, and prototype evaluation to embedded software development in several languages including C++, Python, and Verilog. My fascination with the mechanical aspect of system design gives me the ability to visualize an end product during the conceptual stage and revise my design approach for ease of manufacture and debugging. My studies in business administration help me realize these designs in a manner which optimizes resource management and scalability against labor and component costs. My areas of applied experience include rapid prototype development, wearable sensor arrays, electromagnetic sensor design, and systems integration. My path has most recently led me into the semicondustor industry, where I have had the great fortune to work with a series of incredible mentors to develop and hone my analog and digital VLSI design skills in cutting edge process nodes.
