About Blake Irons

I am a recent mechanical engineering graduate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute currently working as an engineering technician at NFT Inc. My basic technical skills include thermal and fluid analysis, static and dynamic stress analysis, manufacturing processes analysis (paired with hands-on fabrication skills), construction management and electronic circuit design. My greatest strength, however, is in the integration of programmed microcontrollers into mechanical systems using various sensors and user interfaces. I have a long history of writing code in Python, C/C++, and VBA. Some of my more prevalent projects have been from the course Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) and in my capstone design course. In IED, my team and I developed a prototype for a "smart shower" that collects all the water used to be recycled for other various household uses. I was responsible for designing the actuators, integrating a temperature sensor, and designing/programming a water-resistant user interface with buttons and an LCD display. For my final design project, my capstone team and I designed a smart teach pendant intended to make robot programming more intuitive. I was responsible for the design and implementation of removable controllers with a focus on structural integrity and ergonomics. I am extremely comfortable in any role in a team environment. I possess strong leadership skills in the sense that I can facilitate meetings, delegate tasks, and utilize a group's strengths and weaknesses. I also perform well as a general team member. I listen and take instruction well while understanding the overall big picture of a project.
