Background
About Blake Robertson
I am a hard judge of character, and a harder judge of myself. It lends itself to a certain odd ability to litigate, and to an unhealthy tolerance for difficult situations and bad people one encounters traversing the American legal system. Initially, I desired to do intellectual property litigation - specifically, to work on trademark infringement issues at a true Big Law firm (500+ attorneys), as that was the area of law that occupied the majority of my work as an intern in law school. However, economic realities being a more demanding and persistent force than mere human desire, I currently work in bankruptcy law and civil litigation of commercial and real property disputes. Predominantly, I work on large Chapter 11 reorganizational cases, which are truly amazing projects. At this time, I have been through multiple evidentiary hearings before the bankruptcy courts of the District of Idaho and the Eastern District of Washington, and we confirmed a reorganizational plan in the first of those cases - something that happens less than 25% of the time. Further, I have assisted in successfully mediating numerous adversary proceedings into settlements in both venues, as well as settling with large creditors on individual chapter 11 cases and dismissing cases entirely in lieu of liquidation or conversion. Bankruptcy law and procedure should be emphasized to a far greater extent in legal education, as basic familiarity with it can save tremendous heartache in literally every area of practice, from the obvious corollaries of commercial and business law, to tax and estate planning, and of course, to family law as typically a chapter 7 case will either precede or follow a divorce.
