About Bob Gallagher

I help people plan for and solve their tax and estate issues. Our firm encourages clients to think about their estate planning needs and develop a plan to accommodate those needs. We are experienced in complex trust and estate planning as well as probate matters. Taxes are always a concern during estate planning. We help our clients plan to manage their tax liabilities. If a tax dispute does arise, I have extensive experience defending audits by federal and state revenuers focusing on corporate and personal income tax, payroll and trust fund recovery penalties, sales tax, estate tax, and a variety of other tax issues. A substantial portion of my practice involves helping small business owners identify the optimal structure for their business, usually through an LLC. I also help family members seeking to establish a guardianship. Before entering private practice I worked as a Trial Attorney at the United States Department of Justice in the the Civil Tax Division. As a DOJ attorney I represented the United States in a broad array of tax-related matters in U.S. District Courts and Bankruptcy Courts in North Carolina, Washington, D.C, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico. I began my career as a Law Clerk to the Hon. Malcolm J. Howard, Senior United States District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
