Background
About Bob Rardin
Extensive experience designing and implementing new AWS. Azure, Hybrid Cloud, VMware on AWS and GCVE solutions in fast paced environments. Skilled in analyzing existing traditional architectures and redesigning them to align with flexible virtualization architectures. I have extensive experience in designing and implementing existing and new architectures that include: Azure AWS VMware on AWS GCVE Blade technology VMware Integrated DNS UNIX servers Windows Linux Basic Network Design Key Contributions; Deployment of a hybrid cloud environment consisting of an on-premises VMware NSX-V environment and a VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC) SDDC environment. The environment includes migrations\ of applications to VMware Cloud on AWS using VMware Hybrid Cloud Extension (HCX), which includes creating a Layer 2 Virtual Private Network (VPN) between the On-premises environment and the AWS Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) environment, stretching VLANs from the On-premises environment to the AWS environment, live migrations of applications, bulk warm migrations of applications and Disaster recovering of applications from the On-premises environment into the AWS environments, along with leveraging AWS S3 and EC2 services, and converting VMware open virtual appliances (OVA) into AWS Machine Images (AMI). Designed and managed the deployment of a new on-premises backup architecture and a Disaster Recovery (DR) architecture in Azure for the California Public Employees' Retirement System. The new architecture uses Cohesity for the on-premises and Azure cloud backups. The On-premises backups are replicated to Azure for long-term offsite retention and DR. The DR architecture uses Azure Site Recovery to replicate the physical and VMware images to Azure. Oracle DataGuard is used to replicate the Oracle RAC databases to Azure for near-time failover during a DR test event (without taken the production Oracle RAC databases offline) and actual DR event. Redesign of legacy tool suite to a virutalized blade environment. The redesign included the migration to Oracle RAC on LINUX and the virtualization of service ticket system. The new architecture consolidated the physical footprint down eight racks to two racks and enabled the application to increase support of 1200 users to over 3500 users. This architecture has been deployed global in six counties.
