About Bogdan Rus

I’m Bogdan Rus, PhD, Engineer, and the founder and general manager of Cicada Technologies, a software company based in Cluj-Napoca. At Cicada, I lead a team that designs and delivers custom software solutions, collaborating with top players in the manufacturing industry like Teraplast and Aptiv. I believe that digitalization should make work not only more efficient but also more enjoyable and meaningful. My passion lies in building tools that transfer repetitive tasks from people to computers, freeing up time for creative, strategic, and impactful activities. In addition to my work in business, I share my love for technology as a lecturer at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. I hold a BSc, MSc, and PhD in Telecommunications from the same institution and have contributed to four research projects and co-authored over 30 scientific papers throughout my academic career. Teaching allows me to guide and inspire the next generation of problem solvers—a role I truly value. Beyond the business and academic worlds, I’m also committed to creating opportunities through technology. As the leader of ITLAB, a CSR initiative of the Romanian Business Leaders Foundation, I work to bridge the digital divide for children in underserved areas by equipping schools with modern IT laboratories. This project gives kids access to the tools and skills they need to succeed in a digital-first world, empowering them to build a brighter future. Continuous growth is important to me, both professionally and personally. I focus on honing my skills in public speaking, leadership, and strategy to bring the best version of myself to every challenge. And when I’m not working? You’ll find me sailing with my two boys, discovering new destinations through architecture, local cuisine, and art museums. These moments of exploration and connection fuel my creativity and remind me of the importance of balance. At the end of the day, I believe that work should be both impactful and fulfilling. It’s about blending purpose, creativity, and enjoyment to create meaningful change in the lives of others.
