About Bohemia Hookham

At the core of my personal mission, I believe that buildings can be vital partners of the earth’s ecosystem. A Sustainability Manager, Registered Architect and Certified Passive House Designer, I’m passionate about regenerative design, biophilic architecture and moving the built environment toward net-zero carbon.I advocate for the adoption of higher sustainable building standards, regenerative design, effective built environment regulation, and the introduction of well-targeted incentives. My message is clear: improving building performance is urgent and essential to lowering operational energy consumption and creating healthy and resilient buildings for future generations.Elected as a Board Director at the Australian Passive House Association in 2021 and serving tenure until December 2023, I am an advocate for the uptake of the Passive House standard in Australia as an exemplary method for achieving healthy, human-centric, and resilient building solutions that reduce carbon emissions. Effecting lasting change is a collaborative venture, so I value making connections with other sustainability leaders, researchers, and activists to promote the importance of resilient, healthy, and sustainable spaces for all of earth’s inhabitants now and into the future. I share my enthusiasm and knowledge by speaking at industry events, leading tours, podcast interviews etc. Tutoring at the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne School of Design gives me experience in guiding and enabling the next generation of architects in sustainable design skills. In my architectural projects, I incorporate biophilic design to create meaningful connections with nature and protect the environment. During 9+ years of professional experience, I have worked across many community, education, residential, and defence projects. DesignInc’s Glenroy Community Hub project is a career highlight, and a project that pushed me as an architect. There were many challenges and rewards in the journey to realising Australia’s first community building designed for Passive House and Living Building Challenge Petal certification.
