About Bonga Govuza

I hold an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology from UWC, with research focused on the genetic structure, population connectivity, and morphometric analysis of holopelagic Discomedusae Pelagia noctiluca around Africa. My academic and research background has deepened my understanding of marine biodiversity, particularly Scyphozoans. In addition to my studies, I have served as a practical demonstrator for undergraduates and worked as a research assistant for SANBI, contributing to field experiments and data collection. During an NRF internship, I co-authored a commentary paper on international collaboration in the Benguela upwelling region. Recently, I gained valuable experience with Shark Spotters, where I worked on shark tagging, monitoring, and community outreach, and with the Cape Town Science Centre, promoting marine science education through interactive engagement. These roles have sharpened my practical skills and reinforced my dedication to marine conservation and science communication.
