About Bosba Panh

I am a Western-educated, Khmer composer. Influenced by French expressionism, European sacred music, and American minimalism, my music primarily explores the theme of loss and memory. I am a graduate of the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA, and the University of Cambridge where I was a recipient of the Fondation Bay Music Studentship and Cambridge Trust European Scholarship. My research touches on the commodification of trauma in arts in post-genocide Cambodian society and on Khmer identity and agency in Western music. Prior to composition, I began my career in Cambodia as a traditional folk singer at the age of 7. Collaborating with Cambodian artists led to performances at venues such as Angkor Wat, the 13th-century UNESCO heritage site of temples. I’m also a former athlete of the Cambodian Judo Olympic Team. I currently work for for Hal Leonard Europe, part of Hal Leonard companies, as a music marketing specialist in classical, choral and education sheet music. Outside of work and composition, I have interests in gardening, cooking, birds, cultural equity, and creating a safe and positive workplace culture.
