Background
About Brad Gordon
My business cards say things such as scientist, engineer, and patent examiner. But when you get right down to it, I’m much more—I’m a strategist, an entrepreneur, an investor, and an inventor. My background isn’t by any means traditional. First, I quadruple majored in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, and Chemistry—finishing all the degrees in five years. Then, I went to grad school where I worked in a highly interdisciplinary field: creating “smart” nanoparticles for anti-cancer drug delivery. I have over 15 years of research experience, which includes consulting, managing teams, serving as a technical advisor, teaching college-level courses, and developing analytical protocols. I’ve learned how to solve tough open-ended problems, motivate people, set realistic goals, and manage a budget. Out of all the things I’ve done though, teaching has taught me the most:(1) how to relate to others,(2) to listen to other peoples’ perspectives, and (3) how explain difficult concepts in plain English. I’m also passionate about leadership and entrepreneurship. I live and breathe the 7 Habits and I see lean startup as a way of life. I re-read “Good to Great” by Jim Collins every six months. I’m a big proponent of building shared core values and leveraging peoples’ strengths to build effective and focused teams. I also subscribe to the notion that we are what we repeatedly do (as famously said by Aristotle). My core strengths are strategic planning, “out-of-the-box” thinking, and relating to others. Coupled with a wide range of technical experience, I’m able to see trends, quickly understand new ideas, and generate practical solutions to open-ended challenges. Specialties: porous materials, membranes, filters, surface chemistry, colloids, polymers, adsorbents, drug delivery, nanotechnology, silane chemistry, public speaking, project management, mentoring/coaching, team development, prior-art searching, technical writing, and legal writing
