Over the last few years, Faba Canada has laid a lot of the groundwork for a successful faba bean industry to be built on in Canada. We have now taken over a facility north of Edmonton, Alberta where we have modified the present plant to do a proprietary dry fractionation of faba beans. We are just getting started into production to supply our two PIC partners and others starting in the new year. Over the next year, we will increase our production significantly. We will then significantly ramp up our production with a new build on site. We have the capability of reaching a very high percentage purity at a very high yield of plant-based protein and also a high purity starch concentrate(96%). Our products are unique, not only in the high purity levels, but also superior in taste and health benefits. This will be our major focus, but we will also be processing faba beans into flour and partnering with BFY Foods to produce a peanut butter alternative, as well as exporting whole beans into the food and feed industries. We are working with a very unique type of faba beans called Fabelle that are low in vicine/convicine and therefore are much safer for human consumption. We are contracting with several dozen farmers across western Canada to contract grow these beans for us to supply our fractionation mill. Over the last several years I have been working with many farmers to help them successfully grow and market faba beans in the Parkland, or black soil region, of western Canada. We have been able to ramp up the acres in this region significantly to the point where it will support the supply needs of our mill. We have a program for growers that will make this crop extremely valuable for their farms. I believe this project is very important in that it will give farmers another cropping option to help in the battle against Clubroot that is potentially going to be devastating for canola.
