About Brad Green

My primary interests are in drug discovery and development of bioactive peptides found in nature. My undergraduate training was in microbiology and I have a strong interest in the discovery of potential therapeutics from microorganisms. My professional expertise lies in the areas of structure-activity-relationship studies and peptide engineering of neuroactive peptides to improve their pharmacological and physicochemical properties. My graduate work was primarily focused on the discovery, synthesis and modification of neuroactive peptides from venoms of predatory marine snails (i.e. conopeptides) towards the development of first-in-class therapeutics for neuropathic pain. I was also interested in the engineering of endogenous neuropeptides for improved bioavailability towards the creation of potent anticonvulsant drug leads. I have experience in both academic and industry settings and my education and training has been highly multidisciplinary encompassing microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology and structural biology. To date, I have published over 20 scientific articles and have presented my findings at numerous national and international conferences. Currently, I am employed as a Scientist at Applied Biosensors, LLC where my research focusses on the application of peptide aptamers that recognize and bind to specific protein targets towards the development of intelligent, responsive hydrogel-based biosensors.
