Before commencing my career in events management at Your Event Solutions in January 2022, my background was grounded firmly in hospitality; I combined full-time employment in my junior-level F&B management role, with working towards my BA (Hons) Degree in Marketing at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating in 2020 with First Class Honours. From my very first role in hospitality at the age of 17, I quickly grew to appreciate that, for me, the industry would become much more than a 'means to an end' whilst studying, and would have a profound bearing on the direction of my future career. I fell in love with the energy and passion, the artistry, the knowledge sharing, the level of technique and skill of our people, the sense of family and collaboration, and ability to create lasting memories for guests. There exists a strong culture within hospitality to be the best, to strive for innovation, to continuously augment and refine; which deeply resonated with me. I had found my lane and was on the right path. My time in hospitality gave me invaluable exposure to the 'front line' of hospitality, and what constitutes a successful operation; becoming multi-skilled in a range of disciplines from food & beverage, conference & banqueting, HR & administrative duties, marketing & strategy, and guest relations. This helped me to appraise the key drivers which influence the holistic customer (and employee) experience and journey. My employment and marketing degree were mutually reinforcing, with both being fundamental to the success of the other; a reference point which often helped me to consolidate my learning and become more effective in my role. Upon completion of my degree,(and 9 years in the industry), I was ready for a new challenge. I had reached a transition period in my life where I recognised I had honed my craft, and sought further growth, setting my sights on organically progressing into the exciting and fast-paced arena of global events management. I began my career at YES shaped by my valuable experiences in hospitality and an appreciation of the sector, a marketing mindset, and bags of creativity; with both client and delegate delight firmly at the heart of everything I do.
