About Brady Vanlo

I quickly learned the effects of urban form and policy and witnessed first-hand how rapidly a city can grow as I completed preschool through an undergraduate degree within the boundaries of my hometown. I remember being five years old, riding my bike with my father to our local soccer field and being surrounded by gravel roads and corn fields. A few years later, the fields developed into neighbourhoods and a new elementary school. Soon, those gravel roads were paved into multi-lane arterials with bus routes connecting southeast Iowa City to Downtown. It seemed as if every year this simple bike ride through my hometown would change. As I grew older, I began to notice the effects of urban planning more sharply and became interested in the intersectionality between transit, public health, and the built environment. In 2022, I graduated from the University of Iowa with an Environmental Policy & Planning B.A. complemented with an undergraduate certificate in public health. Using my past internship, work, and academic experiences, I want to help create communities that promote safe, equitable, and sustainable transportation systems. I want to bring my interdisciplinary experiences in sustainability and policy to ensure inclusive, people-friendly streets in growing communities while addressing mobility challenges that cities are facing.
