Background
About Bram Dewolfs
Bram Dewolfs is the founder and Director of Placemaking at Urban Foxes and an educational expert. Urban Foxes is an NGO striving for sustainable, inclusive, and co-created cities. They focus on involving often-forgotten stakeholders, such as youth and marginalized communities, in reshaping public spaces. By the co-creation of attractive placemaking tools like the Placemaking for Inclusion Cookbook, they engage people in reimagining their urban environments, thereby combining spatial participation and urban pedagogy. As an expert in placemaking, participatory processes and Urban Living Labs, Bram has been deeply involved in EU projects and consultancy for a wide range of cities and governments such as Barcelona (Super Blocks), Lisbon, New Zealand and many more. Urban Foxes’ activities bring together stakeholders from the quadruple helix, including public authorities, businesses, academia, and civil society. His work ensures that urban transformation efforts are collaborative and reflect the needs of all community members.Bram is a frequent keynote speaker and facilitator of workshops at festivals such as Utopian Hours in Torino, Tokyo University, Nordic Citymaking Week in Helsinki, the Festival of Place in the U.K. and the RE[act] Festival in Belfast, sharing insights and expertise on participation, inclusivity, and the power of co-creation in placemaking. In 2012, Bram started his urban quest improving cities when he became one of the instigators & spoke person of Brussels' highly successful grassroots movement, Picnic the Streets. Thereby succesfully reclaiming emblematic spaces in Brussels and transforming them from urban highways and parking lots into carfree squares and parks. In 2014 he founded Urban Foxes, an NGO striving for healthy, inclusive and co-created cities. The Foxes' expertise lie in the fields of participatory urbanism, placemaking, civic design, the co-creation of participatory tools and urban pedagogy. With an emphasis on the cross-section of collaborative citymaking, non-formal education and experimental youth work. Urban Foxes' projects are both hyper-local and on a European level. In the last 10 years we have gathered ample experience and expertise in EU projects, such as Erasmus+ and Creative Europe.
