Background

About Brandon Carpenter

Assistant Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Kennesaw State University where I use C. elegans to address the fundamental question of how chromatin state controls gene expression and ultimately, cell fate. As a postdoctoral fellow in David Katz’s lab at Emory University, my research, which was supported by an IRACDA NIH fellowship and an individual F32 NIH fellowship, defined how maternal reprogramming of histone methylation regulates germline versus somatic cell fates. My passion for mentoring students in the classroom, and at the lab bench, fuels my motivation to be an independent scientist. As a graduate student and a postdoc, I have published manuscripts with my undergraduate and graduate mentees as co-authors with more in the pipeline. Creating an inclusive environment in STEM education is important to me, and as an IRACDA postdoctoral fellow, I have built a track record to prove it!
