About Brandon Harrison

I have been deeply involved with teaching for nearly twenty years. Growing up in a family where both parents were educators I saw at a young age the joys, as well as the frustrations, of being a teacher. My parents truly impacted the lives of many students over the course of their teaching careers. I wanted to experience as they did, so I, too, went in to education. I taught Physical Education at Riverview Junior High School in the Murray City School District for twelve years. My classes consisted of both coed and non-coed students. Besides PE, I have had the opportunity to instruct Social Studies themed courses such as History, Geography, and Government through the Murray City School District Adult Education Program. Here I helped my students attain their high school diploma or prepare them for taking the GED test. Over my career, I have taught students of virtually every age, background, and ability in a variety of different subjects. My teaching has been in a classroom, a gym, on in field, a ropes course, and even a rappelling cliff. A big part of my teaching philosophy is that of “learning by doing.” One learns and retains more when actively involved; being exposed holistically. Challenge is also an essential part of the learning process. If students aren’t held to high standards then there will be no motivation to go beyond. Their capabilities, oftentimes, are not realized until they are placed in situations where they have to rise above ‘lower expectations.’ Now, I'm the Technology Trainer/Innovation Specialist at CUES. Yes, a complete shift in careers, but one that is turning out to be very fun and worthwhile. I really enjoy getting out to my 43 schools in our seven rural school districts. I have first-hand experience to say that our educators are some of the best out there, and the students in the Tintic, Juab, North Sanpete, South Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, and Wayne School Districts are in great hands!
