Background
About Brandon Imp
I am a physician that is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and HIV Medicine (AAHIVS certificate). I work for California Correctional Health Care Services and am excited to serve this marginalized patient population. I have mixed duties that include HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C care for all of CCHCS and primary care at San Quentin State Prison. My job includes gender affirming care and substance use disorder care. Prior to this, I completed the four-year combined Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine Residency at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and University of California, San Francisco and the one-year HIV Medicine Fellowship at KP Oakland and KP San Francisco. During residency, I completed a MPH at University of California, Berkeley, concentrating on epidemiology. My interests include HIV medicine and prevention, LGBTQ health and hormone therapy, high-resolution anoscopy, public health, and community support. I plan to include clinical work, medical education, quality improvement research, and community outreach and leadership in my career as a physician. Exploration is a good summary word for me. My career and personal paths have zigzagged in many directions as I learned about my interests. I tailored my medical school experience to also develop my leadership, education, and research skills. This lead to a novel residency program that integrated internal medicine and public health to be uniquely prepared to improve health in the clinic and in the broader system. Learning core concepts of public health via structured classes and on-site projects during the COVID-19 pandemic was a once-in-a-generation opportunity. These experiences lead me to my HIV medicine fellowship and my job in the correctional system. Though medicine is central to my career, I equally enjoy other activities. I am a dog and cat dad, rock climber, hiker, filmmaker, actor, friend, and traveler. I am an open, malleable, and curious individual.
