Background
About Brandon Jones
My passion for the design of residential landscapes and gardens is rooted in my early childhood where I spent days in toe, alongside my grandfather cultivating the gardens surrounding my grandparents’ home in upstate New York. I looked to the ornamental horticulture field for opportunity and gravitated to the design side of the industry. I began my formal training at the State University of New York at Cobleskill, earning an Associate of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture. I then earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture, with a concentration in landscape design and construction, from Colorado State University. I had the privilege of participating in the construction and maintenance of Centennial Olympic Park during the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. Other internships consisted of high end residential garden construction in the Cleveland and San Francisco Metro areas. These experiences provided me first hand knowledge of horticulture and construction techniques utilized in high end garden construction which informs my design work today. Successful projects must start with strong communication and collaboration with clients to establish three fundamental goals: the form or function of the landscape and garden being designed, the aesthetic of the space, and the budget available for the project’s construction. Its essential that these three elements be explored in detail as pen is first put to paper. As a landscape designer its my role to weave these three established goals together through a thread of creativity. Design “style” needs to be fluid and a successful design melds a client’s aesthetic with the architecture of the home, and the setting of its environment. All three of these elements never find themselves to be exact from project to project requiring an ability to be versatile. I am the recipient of the prestigious, International Designer of the Year Award, from The Association of Professional Landscape Designers in 2012 and a 5 under 40 award winner from New England Home magazine in 2014. Throughout My career I have also won numerous additional awards for me residential garden design work. I have been a guest lecture for the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, and The Greenwich Garden Education Center, and volunteer my time and design expertise for numerous charitable organizations including, The Hole in The Wall Gang Camp, The Wounded Warrior Project, The Greenwich Garden Education Centers outreach program, The Children of Fallen Patriots Organization, and Urban Impact.
