About Brandon McGugan

I have 23 years of experience consulting on contaminated land and related environmental health and safety fields. I have assisted diverse clients to identify, understand and manage environmental liabilities within their operations. Having worked on projects in over 17 countries across Africa, Latin America, Europe and the United Kingdom, these clients have included global corporations across various sectors, including oil and gas, automotive, manufacturing, chemical, fertiliser, explosives, food and beverage, waste, and agribusiness. I also have experience in Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD), following international lender standards (e.g, IFC) requirements for development finance institutions, commercial banks, private equity and legal firms. I also have Developmental Agency work experience, having been appointed a Technical Expert by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as part of a global project team in 2019. Similarly, in 2020, I consulted for the World Bank as a Senior Soil Contamination Expert for a project establishing baseline soil and water conditions for a former industrial precinct in Rwanda. I began my career at Dames & Moore (later becoming URS) in the United Kingdom, returning to South Africa in 1998, initially working for consulting engineer Kantey & Templer, followed by specialist environmental consulting firms SRK Consulting and then Environmental Resources Management (ERM) until late 2015. In 2016, I became the founding director of IBIS Consulting within the Contamination Risk Management (CRM) business. I joined SLR in 2020 as the Technical Discipline Manager of the Land team. I later transitioned to Programme Manager, implementing a Global Environmental Services Strategy for a Key Client. This entailed managing soil and groundwater environmental liabilities for a large portfolio of downstream sites in South Africa. I joined WSP on the 1st of November 2023 as a Technical Director within the Contamination, Remediation & Geochemistry Team as part of the Earth & Environment Business Unit.
