About Brandon Meadows

I graduated from the University of North Texas (UNT) in 2023 with a B.S. in Ecology for Environmental Science. In my previous position, I served for 1.5 years as an AmeriCorps member at the Trust for Public Land (TPL) where my fellowship focused on community outreach and engagement efforts for new parks and greenspaces in Dallas. Prior to TPL, I worked in the Lichtenberg Animal-Plant Interactions Laboratory at UNT where I had over a year of experience assisting with vegetation surveys, biomass sampling, bumble bee learning experiments, insect pinning, data entry, and insect traits research.At UNT, I took notable courses including Principles of Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation of Animals, Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, Community Ecology, Introduction to Environmental Impact Assessment, Evolution, Comparative Animal Physiology, Behavioral Ecology, Entomology, and Ornithology. Through these courses, I was introduced to various skills including field surveying techniques, fundamentals of taxonomy, scientific report writing, conservation and restoration practices, GIS/ArcMap, RStudio, insect collection, specimen curation and identification, and bird identification.Additionally, during my time at UNT, I was a founding member and served as Chair of the UNT Bird Campus Committee, a committee created to improve bird habitat on campus and increase awareness of threats to birds and conservation practices. I also served as Treasurer of the UNT Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) chapter, was on the UNT greenhouse crew, and volunteered at the bird banding station at Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) for two migration seasons.With my involvement in the UNT SER chapter, I gained knowledge and skills in habitat restoration, specifically through volunteering and assisting with research at the UNT Pecan Creek Pollinative Prairie, a four-acre native tall-grass prairie reconstruction project at UNT’s Discovery Park campus. I have basic identification skills of many flora and fauna in the Blackland Prairie and Cross Timbers ecoregions of North Texas through coursework and use of the iNaturalist app.Now, I am excited to be starting a new position as a Stormwater Inspector at the City of Lewisville!
