Background
About Brandon Sorbom
I serve as Chief Science Officer at Commonwealth Fusion Systems, leading the scientific direction for the company while managing hardware R&D, ensuring a robust supply chain for high-temperature superconducting (HTS) materials, and advancing the technical design of ARC. Under my leadership, CFS is now the world’s leading buyer of HTS that will enable groundbreaking magnet technology and unlock commercial fusion energy.I’m on a mission to find solutions to decarbonize the planet and fight climate change. I studied fusion at MIT because of fusion’s massive potential as a limitless source of clean energy. While working on my PhD at MIT, I was lead author of the paper that proposed the original design for ARC that inspired the founding of CFS in 2018. I earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Physics from Loyola Marymount University and a PhD in Nuclear Science and Engineering from MIT. I’m also honored to have been named a “35 Under 35” Honoree from MIT Technology Review.
