About Brandon Surhigh

I am pursuing a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan, where I also completed my Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in the same field. I have been working as a Graduate Student Instructor and a Research Assistant in the Mechanical Engineering Department since August 2023 and May 2022 respectively. My core competencies include C++, MATLAB, optics, fluids, and heat transfer. As a Graduate Student Instructor, I enhance students' comprehension of core mechanical engineering topics through interactive lab instruction, evaluation, and feedback. I also steer students in the development of robust system models, utilizing data collected from experiments. As a Research Assistant, I pioneer research in temperature-dependent radiative properties impacting metallic and ceramic materials, leveraging MATLAB for efficient and precise analysis. I also conduct exploratory study on solid volume fraction of gravity-driven particle flow, discovering key relationship with height dependence. I am passionate about advancing the knowledge and applications of mechanical engineering, and I aspire to contribute to the academic and industrial community with my research and teaching skills.
