About Brandon Vu

Hello! I am a gap year student who graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.S. in Biology in 2019. I am working on rounding out my resume and preparing to apply to medical schools for Fall 2024. Since graduation, I have spent time working as a medical scribe for over a year and a half in the ENT field. I have spent the last two years performing research at UConn Health in Farmington. I began my position as a Research Technician for one year and then transitioned to become a Graduate Assistant in Dr. Oguro's lab. As a GA, I am earning credits towards a Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Sciences. The lab I work focuses on blood stem cell differentiation, mobilization and proliferation. I am skilled in working with mice, running genotyping, bacterial cloning and plasmid construction, cell culture techniques, and virus production. I hope to contribute more knowledge to the biomedical science community in the future! Most of my clinical experience stems from my hours volunteering at Hartford Hospital as a Mobility volunteer and working as a medical scribe. I have had abundant one-on-one interactions with patients in the former, and significant physician-patient observation in the latter. In each step of my journey to become a physician, I have had great mentors and teachers to help me hone in on the true meaning of patient care and expand my knowledge of the sciences.
