About Brandon Yan

Brandon Yan, MD MPH is a resident physician in the UCSF Department of Medicine dedicated to providing high-quality patient care and bringing evidence to public health advancement. He completed medical school at UCSF and trained in policy analysis and public health at Duke University and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, respectively. In his academic work, Brandon studies how care delivery transformation can help improve population health, health equity, and healthcare value. Published in major scientific journals including JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), he has studied an array of timely subjects including Medicare and Medicaid policy, drivers of U.S. cardiovascular deaths, and the opioid epidemic. His research was the first to uncover why the life expectancy gap between men and women grew to its widest in a quarter century in 2021. His unprecedented work on COVID's impact on Asian Americans went on to influence local, state, and national policy. Cited in major media including the New York Times, CNN, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, and BBC World News, Brandon further lends his unique academic and public sector experience to policy consultation.
