Background
About Brandt Geist
I’m an ambitious, creative, and diligent environmental scientist passionate about improving people’s lives through science, data, and technology. I’m especially drawn to work that helps communities make clear, defensible decisions about natural resources, and I stay engaged with new developments in environmental sciences that shape real-world outcomes.Growing up, I witnessed how environmental challenges can directly impact people’s livelihoods across a community. That experience sparked a lasting curiosity in me: what’s driving these challenges, how do we measure them accurately, and what solutions actually work in practice? I’ve carried those questions with me ever since, and they’ve shaped my focus on connecting the natural world to human systems, public needs, and long-term resilience.I earned a B.S. in Environment & Sustainability from Cornell University. Alongside my coursework, I built a strong foundation in research and collaboration through roles as a research assistant, teaching assistant, and university athletics staff member. I went on to complete an M.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences at Vanderbilt University. During this time, I led research projects and published scholarly work on how human-dominated environments influence ecological processes and impact human health.Across academic and professional settings, I’ve developed a strong track record of translating complex problems and data into clear, decision-relevant insights. I do this through rigorous analysis, well-documented methods, and technical writing designed to support strong decision-making. My core strengths include project management, data analysis, study design, workflow development, programming, technical writing, and scientific communication. I’m particularly motivated by applied work that combines environmental science with planning, policy, and implementation.
